Supporting a wide and growing portfolio of clients, WDK Motorsport quickly identified the necessity for professional logistics to complement our workshop expertise. We run a pair of comprehensively-insured articulated transporters all year round, relying upon HGV1 qualified drivers with specialised loading knowledge to deliver customers’ cars to major race events and testing venues throughout Europe.
Each truck covers approximately 30,000 miles per year, so we take no chances. WDK has a full International Operators’ Licence which keeps us abreast of the complex legal requirements of commercial transportation but brings extra responsibilities. Maintenance is rigidly policed. Our DAF tractor units and 40-foot trailers are serviced and safety-checked by a main dealer every 12 weeks. In the unlikely event of a mechanical breakdown which cannot be repaired quickly, DAF’s support network will provide a replacement unit.
On a typical winter testing programme our trucks – essentially portable workshops – may be away from base for several weeks at a time, perhaps ferrying a fleet of cars to different countries. Because clients’ needs come first – and we understand that they change – a flexible approach is vital. Our administration team at HQ masterminds circuit bookings, travel and accommodation for clients and a small army of travelling technicians, enabling owner-drivers to maximise their enjoyment.
Occasionally, racing programmes take us to ‘flyaway’ events outside Europe. In October 2015, for instance, several WDK clients competed in Formula 1 World Championship support races at the United States and Mexican Grands Prix. At these events our regular engineers and mechanics were flown in for continuity of service.
